Yuriy Kostyuchenko Obituary, Death – It is with deep regret that we must inform you of the passing of our good friend and fellow worker, Yuriy Kostyuchenko, who died away on March 16, 2023. Yuriy was an employee in our company at one point. We are going to miss having him here with us. Throughout the years that he has worked as the coordinator of IAPG-Ukraine, Yuriy has been responsible for making significant contributions to a wide variety of IAPG initiatives and projects.
Instead, he was unable to make it to the conference due to scheduling conflicts. After a valiant and protracted struggle against his illness in Vienna, Yuriy passed away in the end and was able to leave the city. After Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine, he uprooted his family and fled the nation in order to protect them from harm and guarantee that they would have access to any essential medical care in the future.
He has been in this role for a considerable amount of time now. If he had been able to attend this year’s EGU23, where he was scheduled to speak at the EOS4.1 session on geoethics organized by the IAPG, we would have had the opportunity to engage in dialogue with him. Instead, he was unable to make it to the conference.
During this sad time, we are keeping his family in our thoughts and prayers. Please accept our sincere condolences and know that you are in our prayers. We are going to miss having Yuriy around, and we are not going to forget him. Goodbye.
We are going to miss his dedication, grin, profound culture, companionship, generosity, and honesty, and in this painful moment, we feel a gap in our lives that can never be replaced. We are going to miss him. We want his family to know that we are thinking about them and that we are keeping them in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
