Shirley Nelson Obituary, Death – On April 1, 2023, Shirley May Nelson passed away at the Springfield Health and Rehab Center in Springfield, Vermont. When she passed away, she was 87 years old. She was born and reared in the small Vermont town of North Springfield. It was clear that Shirley May Nelson, who had been fighting Alzheimer’s illness for many years, was a brave person. She was similarly intent on success.
Parenthood officially began for Everand Smith Sr. and Myrtle (Page) Gosselin with the birth of their daughter on June 18, 1935. This new life entered the world in the Vermont community of Springfield. She was the sole addition to their family and the only kid they ever had. She tied the knot with Robert H. Nelson, Jr. on April 3, 1954; sadly, he died away in 2018. This marked the end of their happy 64-year marriage. The wedding and the ceremony occurred on April 3, 1954.
Shirley received both her high school diploma and her associate’s degree in 1953, the year she graduated from Springfield High School. After finishing high school, she worked at the Brooks Drug Store and other local convenience stores while also volunteering for the American Red Cross. During her time in high school, she also volunteered for the American Red Cross. Shirley cherished and admired other people, and she found tremendous joy in conversing with each and every one of them during the course of her life.
She and her husband took several trips together, and each time they returned, they had a whole new set of friends and acquaintances. Because of this, they were able to extend their circle of friends. Shirley enjoyed doing things like scrapbooking, knitting, cross-stitching, roller skating, and going for long walks when the weather was nice enough for her to do so. She was also a fan of roller skating outings. She also found enjoyment in needlework such as knitting and cross-stitch, as well as paper crafts such as scrapbooking.
Carol-Lynn Knight and Rich Knight of North Springfield, Bonnie Sandstrom and Gary Sandstrom of Manchester, New Hampshire, and Kenneth Nelson and Diane Nelson of Rutland are Shirley’s surviving children and spouses. Manchester, New Hampshire is home to a number of notable people, including Carol-Lynn Knight, Bonnie Sandstrom, and Kenneth Nelson. Carol-Lynn Knight, Bonnie Sandstrom, and Kenneth Nelson are good friends who all live in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Not only does she have eight grandchildren, but she also has eight generations of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Motherhood brought out the kindest and most selfless part of Shirley. Her half-brother Everand Smith Jr., step-brothers Brent and Peter Haskell, and step-sister Glenda Haskell are among her surviving family members. Her parents, stepbrother Bryan Haskell, brother Kenneth Smith, sister-in-law Teri Perkins, stepbrothers Brent and Peter Haskell, and stepsister Glenda Haskell are all no longer with us.
