After learning of the passing of one of our participants, Scott Gillies, everyone at the Citizens Theatre felt an overwhelming sense of loss and grief. Scott was a participant in the Friday Club, which offered acting classes for persons with learning disabilities. His fellow participants and the staff that worked the closest with him desired for this tribute to be shared. The Friday Club would like to remember our good buddy Scott Gillies by paying tribute to him today.
Since he first arrived in 2016, Scott has been an indispensable member of our inventive company. During our rehearsals, he contributed his wacky creativity, quick wit, and gentle character, and we could always count on him to bring a distinct, unique perspective to the work that we did together. Only Scott could have imagined casting a historical reenactor in the role of a resident of a distant Scottish island when he was producing the movie “The Isle of Darkness.
Although though he was a larger-than-life presence in the group, he was never domineering in any manner, and he was always sensitive to and thoughtful about the requirements of his friends and coworkers. From 2016 onwards, Scott participated in all of the Friday Club productions, including The Wedding, The River, The Sea, and Silent Movie, as well as our filmed productions of Citizen Ghost, The Island of Night, Penny Lane (sort of), and The Orbs. Scott also appeared in The Orbs and Penny Lane (sort of).
