Ruth Tittle Obituary, Death – Mrs. Ruth Mae Tittle, 91, of Brilliant, Alabama, died on April 2, 2023, at the Ridgeview Health Care Center in Jasper. Ruth Mae Barnes Tittle was born to parents Jacob Lee Roy Barnes and Ora Mae McKay Barnes in Lamar County, Alabama on July 23, 1931. Her mom’s last name before she got married was McKay. She had a lot of affection for the town of Brilliant, where she had finished high school back in 1950.
On January 22, 1952, she married the man who would become her soul mate: Howard Tittle. Ruth and Howard welcomed their first child, a son named Charles, in October. Teresa, their daughter, was born in September of 1959, after they had waited another year to become parents. When Ruth’s grandchildren first dubbed her “Mama Tittle,” the term stuck, and soon everyone who knew her did, too.
She stopped calling herself “Mama Tittle” after her great-granddaughter Lily was born; henceforth she was known simply as “Tittle.” Ruth was very supportive of her kids and grandkids, as well as anyone else who had any kind of connection to them. The help we received from Ruth was priceless. She cared deeply about what they did on a regular basis.
Only Ruth’s devotion to God was equaled by her devotion to her loved ones. Ruth was a committed Christian and an integral part of the Whitehouse Church of Christ community. For long stretches of time, she would keep her great granddaughters entertained by playing with dolls and acting out roles like doctor or beauty shop owner. She had a firm belief that finishing a meal with a dessert was the best way to complete the experience.
Ruth is survived by her son Wesley Smith (Kali), daughter Teresa Smith (James), granddaughters Ginger Tittle Eatman and Paula Tittle Hatton (Jon), grandson Wesley Smith (Kali), great-granddaughters Lily Piper Hatton, Saylor Kate Smith, and Oaklyn Tayte Smith, nieces and nephews, and other relatives. Her ancestors, parents, husband, son, sisters, and brothers.
Betty Jo Willett, Joyce Ann Rose, Nelda Sue Barnes, Judy Gulley, and Allean Guin, all predeceased her. Her only surviving child is a son named Charles. Until her death, no one else in her immediate family was still alive. A memorial service honoring Mrs. Tittle’s life will be place on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at the Bowen Funeral Home in Winfield, Alabama.
The funeral home is Bowen Funeral Home, and the address is 981 State Highway 253, Winfield, Alabama 35594. The viewing with family members will begin at 1 p.m., and the memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. At the gravesite, there will be no memorial service. When Ruth’s time comes, she will be buried in the family plot at Center Cemetery.
