Paul Geard Obituary, Death – We regret to inform you of the death of Paul Geard, the man behind the GeeGees. There is a lot of interest in tassie racing. RIP. Paul Raymond Gerard, a beloved husband, father, grandparent, and great-grandfather, passed peacefully into God’s eternal heaven.
Love of God, love of family, and love of life characterized Paul Gerard’s life. Barbara Eva Gerard, his beloved wife, predeceased him in 2019. They’ve been together for 71 years. Paul Gerard was born on April 28, 1926, in Dana, Indiana, as the only child of Rev. Everett and Eva Gerard. Paul went through Newport schools before attending El Monte High School. He was a part of the Newport track team, where he set records at the time. He also played basketball.
After graduating in 1944, he entered the Navy at the age of 17 and served as a Quartermaster (Signalman). Throughout the Mariana, Marshall, and Iwo Jima campaigns, Paul served on the USS Gamble and the USS Schuykill. After the war, Paul returned to Cayuga, Indiana, and fell in love with Barbara Hack. On December 21, 1947, Paul married Barbara Hack and subsequently went to barber school in Terre Haute, Indiana.
After the Korean War, Paul rejoined the Navy and was stationed in Kodiak, Alaska, where Barbara joined him for the next two years. Paul and Barbara moved to Indiana with their baby Pamela after being discharged from the Military, where their son Paul Steven was born in 1954. Paul and Barbara moved to Florida in 1956 with their two children, Pamela and Paul. Penni, their third child, was born in 1960.
Paul opened his hair salon there, which has been a popular destination in the Clearwater-Largo area for 43 years. Paul and Barbara belonged to the Clearwater Church of the Nazarene, where they emphasized service to God and others. Paul was a member of the church board, a choir member, and a softball and basketball coach.
In 1999, Paul retired from barbering and moved to Cumming, Georgia, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He spent as much time as he could with his family playing basketball. When he was able, he enjoyed trimming the hair of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Paul and Barbara were members of Way Point Baptist Church, formerly North Lanier Baptist Church, where they actively engaged in a Sunday School class.
Rev. Pamela Runyan and Rev. Doug Runyan, Rev. Pauly Gerard and wife Gayla Gerard, and Penni Arner and Brian Arner are his three children. Among the grandchildren are Dr. Jason Runyan, Lauren and Rev. Mark Snodgrass, Ashley and Quincy Pickering, Lea Rader, Lou and Melissa Gerard, Lyle and Jessica Gerard, Lawson and Sara Gerard, Chauncey and Maisen Arner, and Cobey Arner.
Great grandkids include Dietrich, Eleanor, and Jude Runyan; Paul and Luke Snodgrass; Henley, Chatwin, and Savoy Pickering; Steele and Axel Rader; Landon and Juliette Gerard; Weston Gerard; Brooks and Georgia Gerard; and Crue Arner.
