Leland Young Obituary, Death – The news that Leland Young passed away on Friday has left all of us with a profound sense of loss. Because Leland was such a generous person with a big heart, his barn was always available for our yearly barbecue get-togethers, which made those occasions even more memorable. We shall be eternally thankful to him for the kind hospitality he showed us, and we will miss him very much.
This evening, in memory of Leland, we will host a celebration of his life at his barn, where we will serve barbecue for the very last time. Leland Sinclair Young, a proud veteran of the United States Army, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Ahava Healthcare in Clarksville, TN. He was born on April 5, 1947, and he graduated from both Cameron High School and West Green High School in 1965. He’d attended both schools since he was a teenager. Leland served his country well in the Vietnam War.
For his service, he earned a Purple Heart, National Defense Service Metal and an Expert Badge with Rifle Bar. He was a specialist of the fourth class and served with distinction. Leland is survived by his daughter Rhonda (Jon) Pryor of Bowling Green, KY; two grandchildren, Zachary Hunt and McKenna Hunt of Bowling Green, KY; two sisters, Clara S. Young of Bradenton, FL, Lois Wickham of Zanesville, OH; one brother, Neil Young of Cameron, WV. Both of his parents, Mack and Phyllis Young, as well as his brother Marcus Young, passed away before he was born.
His loved ones will remember some of his great enjoyments of life including hunting, raising champion beagle hounds and gunsmithing. A memorial service honoring the life of Leland will be held for family and loved ones in West Virginia at a later time. His cremated remains are going to be laid to rest in the Lebanon National Cemetery, which is located in Lebanon, Kentucky. Donations to the Wounded Warrior Project are being requested by the family in lieu of traditional floral tributes. Please note the memorial tree links do not connect to a local arborist in Bowling Green, KY. If you wish to plant a memorial tree locally you may contact the City of Bowling Green Parks and Recreation department at www.bgky.org/bgpr/cemeteries/memorial-tree or the Warren County Parks and Recreation department.
