Jerold Gerbrecht Obituary, Death – Jerold Gerbrecht was the principal trumpet player for both the CBC Radio Orchestra and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for more than three decades. He held this position for the entirety of that time. In addition, Jerold Gerbrecht was the creative force behind the establishment of the Vancouver Academy of Music. The tragic news of his passing has caused all of us to feel an overwhelming sense of loss. He was a well-known personality in the realm of classical music in Vancouver, and a large number of musicians who were just beginning their careers looked to him for guidance and encouragement throughout their careers.
On March 25, 2023, our dear Jerold left us. He was a well-known figure in the community of classical musicians in Vancouver, and his passing was much mourned by many. On that day, the news of his passing was shared. Dana Gerbrecht, Karen Gerbrecht, John Gerbrecht (Julia Evans Gerbrecht), and Alice Gerbrecht (Kyle Harrison) are his surviving children. Evan Gerbrecht, Dominic Denofrio, Adam Gerbrecht, and Mischa Gerbrecht are his four grandchildren, and all of them are still alive and well today. In addition to his talent as the Principal Trumpet with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the CBC Radio Orchestra for more than 30 years, he will be remembered as the visionary who founded the Vancouver Academy of Music.
His contributions to the musical community will go on in perpetuity. Throughout his professional life, he was a member of the CBC Radio Orchestra and played the trumpet there (which, prior to his Directorship, was known as the Community Music School of Greater Vancouver). Also, the great influence that he had on the community will live on in people’s memories of him. Throughout the final years of our father’s life, the caregivers at South Granville Park Lodge and Youville Residence provided him with compassionate care that was marked by a high level of attention to detail. We would want to express our appreciation to those folks for the caring care that they provided to our parent on behalf of Jerold’s children. We would like to say thank you on their behalf.
