“I haven’t been able to think of anything to say because, if I’m being totally forthright, it still doesn’t feel all that real to me. As a result, I haven’t been able to come up with anything. I have been at a loss for words ever since you brought it up. When someone who has been a close friend since childhood and a roommate all through college passes away at such a young age, it is absolutely unfair. It is an especially horrible thing to experience when the death comes abruptly and suddenly.
The fact that I was able to spend some time getting to know you, Brooke Upchurch, was a real blessing. You had a laugh that was contagious and impossible for anyone to ever forget, and you were always grinning broadly. As I find myself flipping through old photo albums and remembering all of the good times we used to have together, I am struck by the realization that the number of memories that the two of us have created together is literally beyond bounds. You will be remembered throughout the ages, and your presence will neither be forgotten nor replaced. You will live on in infamy. I wish for you to experience the kind of inner calm that transcends all comprehension. Your family is in my thoughts today, and please know that I am sending them all of the love and best wishes in the world.”
